Dracula Would Love This Class

Today we had our Circulation Test. After that we continued on the components of blood: erythrocytes, leucocytes, platelets, blood plasma.
There are no assignments due for tomorrow. However, we will look at an EKG at the beginning of the class. I will need a couple of victims NO! NO! I mean volunteers to be the guinea pigs for this activity.

What Influences this Darn Weather

Today we had our Acid and Base Test. After that we worked on a Weather Worksheet. This sheet is due for tomorrow at the beginning of the class. Some of the questions will be for term marks.

I hate decompression.

Today we looked at how long we as an astronaut would need to spend in a decompression chamber in our space suit before going on a space walk. Some of us have a long time to do nothing before going on our walk.

Circulation and Pressure Test

Circulation test is on October 31. Our next unit is on blood. Hopefully Dracula doesn't attend class of Halloween or there won't be any blood to look at the next day. HaHa

We have now looked at the pump and the tubes. Now we look at the fluid that travels in those pipes.

Science Grade 10 - I have to study now!!!

Our next unit is all about weather. By the time you finish you will be just like the "hippie-dippie" weather man and predict tomorrow's weather with just as much accuracy as the weather department. Here's hoping you can.

Mission to Mars

We continue to get ready for our Mission to Mars project. Today we will look at Boyle's Law and start discussions on decompression to begin our EVA (a.k.a. spacewalk)

And the Beat Goes On

Today we had a look at the mechanics of the heart beat and then looked at hypertension in the circulatory system. Maybe take a look at the DASH diet for some more information on the subject.

For Monday, you will need to have your Cardiovascular questions, Heart Rate questions,and the Blood Pressure questions done so we can take them up for discussion.

Good Luck to the volleyball players and hopefully you get the questions done for Monday.

Hurray!!! No homework for the Weekend

We took a look at Acids and Bases in Industry today. Topics included acids & bases in biological systems, in the home, in industry, exothermic and endothermic reactions, acid rain and how it is made and how it affects the environment.

There is no homework for the weekend but REMEMBER THE TEST ON OCTOBER 31
Monday's class will look at other ways to use acids and bases in our everyday lives.

The study guide for this unit must be finished by Tuesday as we will be going over it that day.

"I can't afford to take a shower, Mom"

Please remember that your grey water shower assignment is due tomorrow. I think you will find that most of you can't afford to shower in space the way you do on Earth. It costs too much to take that amount of water into orbit. So, for the astronaut wanna-bees, start cuttting down on your 45 minute shower.
Today we looked at nitrogen partial pressure and how it dissolves in our tissues. We also discussed how it will need to be addressed on our EVA's.

I Feel the Pressure Rising!!

Today we looked at how the heart actually beats and what controls its rhythm. Tomorrow will be about blood pressure in the the system. Don't make mine rise please!

Be sure that you have your questions on the circulatory system complete for tomorrow. It looks like we will have a test on this unit on November 2 but things may change if we get done sooner.

Acids, Bases, & Neutrals, Oh My!!!!!

We are slowly wrapping up the unit on Acids and Bases. Your worksheet questions will be due tomorrow (Friday). Be sure that you write the answers in complete sentences as you have been instructed.

Reminder: TEST ON ACIDS AND BASES WILL BE OCTOBER 31, 2007 (HALLOWEEN) Could be bonus points for costumes!!!

Circulation in the Body

Today we learned about the two systems of circulation-systemic and pulmonary. Our unit is not too far off being completed which will mean a test likely next week. We will then start blood and all of its components.

How much air do we need in space?

The CTS class took a look at how much air would be needed to do an EVA( spacewalk). They took a resting breathe rate and a breathe rate after running outside. This was to be the same as working slowly and strenuously in space.

Reminder that our shower activity is due on Friday. Get your soap in to find its mass!!!!!

Checking on Household Items-Science 20

The morning science class worked with common household substances to find out if they were acids, bases, or neutral. The afternoon class was spent with the health nurse and her presentation. Tomorrow you will do the household substances.

Reminder that you will have a quiz on Acids and Bases towards the end of next week. We will set a date tomorrow. A study guide will be coming very shortly.

The Science Mid-Term Exam is set for Wednesday Nov. 7 at 9 am. You need to start studying right away. Your study guide will be given to you tomorrow.

A Class Full of Surgeons

Today we dissected pig hearts in class. We need to thank Maple Leaf for donating the hearts to our class. There was lots of ooh and aah as the heart was opened up to reveal chambers, blood clots, and sinews on the valves.
Tomorrow we will look at systemic and pulmonary circulation in the body. Good class guys.

So!! What are the Properties of Acids and Bases

Today we had a discovery exercise in which we looked at the properties of acids and bases with indicators: both nature and chemical. We created some pretty cool colours with these. Parents, if your student starts boiling some purple cabbage for its juice, they are just trying to find more acids and bases in your house. Tomorrow we will be doing part B of this exercise as well as a worksheet of questions that will need to be done by Thursday.

Not Many Clean CTS Students

This is a reminder that you need to complete the Grey Water Shower activity for this Friday. Some of you still need to weigh your shower gel or bar of soap. This assignment is due on Friday October 26.
Today we took a look at a worksheet on Partial Pressures of Gases. The sheet was taken up today.

Biology 30 S

Today we had our test on Biomolecules and Nutrition. On Monday those of you who were at soccer today will need to let me know what class (or at noon) that you will be writing. By the way, congrats to the soccer team on your win over Birtle this am.
Monday will be the continuation of the unit on Circulation and Blood. Miss Gantor will be conducting this unit for us. She is very excited to work with your class.

Science 20 F

Well we are almost done our Chemistry bonding section. TEST IS ON MONDAY !!!!!!!!
Be sure that you study this weekend. Review your questions and worksheets that we did for this unit.

Next unit is Acids and Bases. Miss Gantor, our teacher candidate will be conducting this unit. I have seen some of the things she is going to be doing and it looks like it will be a very fun unit with lots of activities. See you on Monday.

Can you afford to shower in space?

Try and remember to bring in your soap for tomorrow so we can find its mass before you do the shower activity on the weekend. Also, if your rocket activity is not finished, you will need to get that done and handed in to me before you leave class tomorrow. Bonding Test

We continued on with our rocket research from yesterday. This will need to be finished by tomorrow complete with the questions as found on the worksheet for this activity.

New Unit - Circulation

The class started the unit on Blood and Circulation today. We had a look at pictures of arteries, veins, and capillaries.

Biomolecules and Nutrition

A reminder that your test is on Friday. We will take up the study guide on Thursday. If you are away on Friday, you will need to write the test on Monday either in a spare or at noon hour.

Rockets everywhere

The CTS students started their discovery of the best rocket to build. They will be looking at number of fins, placement of fins, shape of fins, and weight of the rocket. There are paper rockets flying everywhere. It is great!!!!

Reactions at the Dance

Hope you enjoyed the discussion about the types of reactions and how each one can be like students at a dance. Ex. synthesis--> boy + girl = couple (compound). Decomposition--> couple breaks up into two separate people. Single replacement--> a couple breaks up and the guy joins with another girl only to leave his first girlfriend by herself. Double replacement--> two couples switch partners.

Rocketing to Success

Today we looked at what makes a rocket get off the ground. The Space Shuttle is an amazing craft and Tuesday we will look at some of the options that can be used to get us to Mars. We will also be flying paper rockets to determine where if any fins need to be placed, if added weight makes a difference and how well each prototype will fly. The fun is about to begin.

Seeing Food Labels in my Sleep

I hope you had a good time with the food labels today. I know that some of you now know that there actual is a label on the product and that it tells us a lot. Monday will be a research day for the FAD diets that we all hear about or have chosen to use. Lets find out as much as we can. Tuesday we will present them to the rest of the class.

NO HOMEWORK FOR MONDAY!!!!!!!

Today we looked at covalent bonding and took up page 204 1-6. IF you where away please be sure that it is complete for Monday. Monday's class is a work period that you need to complete Page 223 and 229 for Tuesday's class. We only have a few more things to cover before our test which will be next Friday October 19. Rockets Away

Today we looked at the history of the rocket. Be sure that the assignment about Where you Will Live in Space is handed in for tomorrow (that's Friday October 12) The history worksheet should also be ready for Friday.

Vitamins, Minerals, and Nutrients Oh My

Hopefully you have brought some labels so we can look at them and then decide on the nutritional value for the foods that you have eaten. Be sure to log all that you ate during one day this week. You will need this by Tuesday.

Where do we Live in Space?

We will continue to work on our information gathering for the planets. Also by the end of class I hope you will have completed which planet you want to live on and give your reasons. Ionic Bonding

Today we had a look at ionic bonding and how to formulate the formulas and name the ionic compounds. Tomorrow you will be able to try these for yourself. The assignment for tomorrow will be Page 195 questions 1-10. For anyone who is away tomorrow be sure to get these done for Tuesday.

What are those planets like?

Today will be a fun day as Colleen Cuvier from the Little Saskatchewan River Conservation District will be here to do water testing with you. Tomorrow we go to the computer lab and work on the planets assignment. Those of you who will be away need to do this over the weekend so that it will be ready by Tuesday.

CTS next module

Right after we finish our open book test, we will be starting Space the Human Endevour. You will be studying about other planets as well as learning how we may be able to live on Mars. You will be surprised at how difficult it will be to get to Mars and to live there.

Biomolecules

Today we reviewed for our test tomorrow on the Digestive system. Be sure to pay special attention to your enzymes as well as all of the organs that help in the digestion of your meals. Look over Mr. Guts so that you can label him as well as a closer look at the stomach and the mid-section of the gut. After our test we will finish proteins and move onto lipids. See you tomorrow.
