CTS Fingerprinting

Yesterday we looked at the types of fingerprints that people have and then we fingerprinted ourselves. That was a messy assignment. Today we looked at other methods of lifting latent prints other than dusting "cinnamon" on them.

Bio 30 Don't Be a Nervous Nellie.

Well we started the Nervous System yesterday by looking at the neuron and how it is constructed. Today we looked at the brain and its parts. Monday we will look at a video about the nervous system as well as finish up any of the work that was not done for the last 2 days. Those of you who were away at volleyball need to get as much of the assignments that you took with you done for Monday.

Sc 10 "Speeding" right along

Yesterday we looked at speed, distance and time and how they relate. We looked at graphs of two vehicles travelling at different rates. It was easy to see the fastest car had the greatest slope on the graph. Today we had a work period to get the following assignments done for Monday.

Page 349 of the textbook 7-10

These MUST be complete for Monday's class.

CTS: CSI Chicks and Robbie

Today we set up our forensic book and started the unit again (Band yesterday). We also had 2 worksheets that will be due for Thursday.

Bio 30 Immunity

Just a reminder of your test for tomorrow.

Today we looked at a specific mediated cell response in our immune system. It is hard to imagine how a battle rages inside of us and we don't even realize it is taking place. Pathogens are destroyed all the time.

For those away on Thursday and Friday, I will try to get together some materials for you.

Sc 10 New Unit - MOTION

Today we went over any questions that students had in regards to tomorrow's Weather Test. We then started the new unit on Motion. We talked about measurement and how accuracy plays a role in calculating using the measurement. Significant Digits was the topic. After your test tomorrow you can work on the homework assignment that was given to you today. It is page 349 1-6. This assignment will be due on Thursday Nov. 29.

WOW!!! I can't believe we only have 17 days of school left before holidays.

CTS - Forensic Science

Today was a very "light" class as there was only 3 people in class. (Band Rehearsal got the rest of them). Tomorrow we will start the next unit on Forensic Science.

Bio 30 Immunity

We started the new unit on Protection and Control. This unit is about our immunity and the nervous system as well as the endocrine system. There will likely be two tests in this unit.

A reminder that our test on Respiration and Excretion will take place on Wednesday this week.

Sc 10 - Weather Test Tomorrow

Today we worked on the study guide for the test on Weather on Wednesday. Tomorrow we will go over the guide and make sure everyone knows what they need to study. Be sure to have the guide done to the best of your ability for tomorrow.

CTS Last Day

Today was the last day for your Mission to Mars Project to be completed. By Monday it must be handed into me. You must also have your duotang for that day.

Bio 30 Kidneys Man Kidneys

Today we took a look at how the nephron works and how urine is made, stored and eliminated out of your body. You also got your study guide for the test that will take place on November 28. Start studying now.

Sc 10 Weather Phenomena

Today we had a look at the weather station symbols and how to use them. We also looked at types of clouds. For homework, you need to have the following complete by Monday.
Define the following: a) thermal updraft, b) sea breeze c) land breeze, d) lake-effect snow and e) chinook winds.

On Page 556 there is a diagram which you need to make notes about. Discuss how each type of weather is produced.

REMINDER: We have a test coming up on November 28. You have been given your study guide for this unit so you need to start work on it.

CTS Continue on to Mars

Today was another work day for our mission to Mars project. This project will wrap up on Wednesday. Starting next week we will be starting the final unit of this course. It is the Forensic Science unit. For this unit you will need a duo-tang for your Forensic Book and all of your activities that we do.

Bio 30 The Nephron

Today we got to colour our pictures of the kidney and the nephron. Tomorrow we will learn how it all works and what makes us "pee".

Sc 10 Weather maps

Today we looked at weather system maps and learned how to tell where a low system and high pressure system are located. We also took a look at how a low pressure system forms and what an occluded front and stationary front look like. At the end of the class an assignment was given to the class which we will work on tomorrow in class. This is not due for tomorrow. Page 550-551 all of the questions on these two pages.

Tomorrow we will look at weather station symbols.

CTS Mission to Mars

Yesterday we got started on our Mission to Mars project. This project will continue until November 21 which is when it will be due. You need to make sure that you work hard each class in order that it be finished by November 21.

Today we looked at the lung capacity, lung diseases, and started the excretory system. On Monday we will be colouring a picture of the excretory system (aka. the kidney) and learning how it functions. It looks like our next test will be the week of November 26- 30. We will discuss this on Monday.

Sc 10 Extreme Weather Projects

We presented out Extreme Weather Projects to the class today. You will get your photocopied fact sheets on Monday as well as your mark for the project then. These facts about the weather phenomena will be used on your test in weather. The test will be around November 28 or 29 as we only have 3 days of school next week.

Monday we will be starting the forecasting section to the weather unit. Pretty soon you will be as accurate as the weatherman.

Today we went over the worksheet that was assigned on Friday. For those of you who did not complete the assignment you will need to get it done on your own.

We also started our Extreme Weather Projects. This is due on Friday as the presentations will be seen at this time. Don't forget to look in your text book for information as well as other sources.

Bio 30 Respiration

Today we started the new unit called Respiration and Excretion. There are no assignments in this as of yet. Tomorrow we will start with the air coming into the lungs and learn how the body reacts to create breathing.

Sc 10 - Weather Presentations

This blog is for both Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday's classes. Tomorrow we will start our Extreme Weather Projects. You will be given an outline as to what needs to be done in tomorrow's class, work on it for Wed. and Thurs. and present it on Friday to the rest of your classmates. Be prepared to work very hard on this. All work will need to be completed by Friday as this is the last day for Miss Gancher to be here.

CTS: Mars Test

Now you will be able to put together all that you have learned thus far in a short test that will be taking place on Wednesday, Nov. 14.

Be sure that you have your study guide done for Tuesday, that's right Tuesday as you have no classes on Monday. Be sure that you get a good night's sleep this weekend so you are ready to work hard next week.

Bio 30 - Test, Test, Test!!!!!

Yes we will be having a short Quizzical on Tuesday in regards to the Blood Unit. Miss Gancher needs to wrap it up for you as she will be leaving us on Friday.

So work on that study guide and be prepared for a short quiz on Tuesday.

Notice there is no class on Monday. You will have time to get caught up on your sleep this weekend.

Sc 10 - What a Windy Day!!!!!

We continued with our Weather Unit. Today we looked at prevailing winds, ocean currents, and the jet stream by using a fill in the blank worksheet. For those of you who were in the band rehearsal during the first class, you will need to get this worksheet done by Tuesday. Yes I said Tuesday because we have NO class on Monday.

Get caught up on your sleep this weekend so you are ready to Give 'Er on Tuesday.

CTS No Exam for You

CTS will not have an exam in it. However, you will write a test on the Space Unit of what you have learned so far. Tomorrow a date will be set for the test and any presentations not done today will be done tomorrow.

Bio 30 - Only 3 more sleeps

Three more sleeps until the Bio Exam.

For those of you who still have to do your lab from Friday, we will be meeting on Tuesday Nov. 13 at 12:30 to get it done. By then maybe volleyball season will be done.

Sc 10 2 More Sleeps

Just two more sleeps until be meet to write out mid-term exam. The exam will be written in the classroom as our gym is booked during the night for volleyball so desks would have to be moved too often.

Be sure that if you have any overdue assignments that you have them into me by Friday to be counted toward this term's course work. You were told today who has the outstanding assignments due.

Sc. 10 - Only 5 More Sleeps

Yes there are only 5 more sleeps until we write our Mid Term Exam. Monday's class will be a studying guide working period so be sure to bring your guide and anything you have done on it to class on Monday.
Tuesday we will take up any questions you have as well as I will discuss the format for your exam. (There may be helpful hints given this day so be sure to come with your ears stuck on tight that day)

The assignment for the hydrosphere and atmosphere is Page 513 #3-9 and Page 524 #2-4. This is a hand in assignment due for Monday. Most of you will likely have it done as you had 20 minutes in class already.

CTS: Hydroponics for Veggies

We continued to work on our hydroponics research assignment. Tomorrow we will present the different types of hydoponic set ups and then discuss which one you feel will be the best to take to space to grow your "veggies" to keep you alive.

This will depend on how many of you will be away for volleyball etc. but let's aim for tomorrow as to the date for presentations.

Bio 30 So What Type are You Anyway???

Today we looked at the blood types for humans. You found out that the red blood cell can contain 3 different types of antigens on its surface and as to which one(s) you have determines the type of blood you have. Tomorrow you will be doing a blood typing lab on some simulated blood.

For those of you up late last night make sure you get a good night's sleep. There are only 7 more sleeps until your mid-term exam.

Sc. 10 Weather Questions Due

Today the class had a look at climate, weather, convection currents, radiation, conduction of heat, and albedo (how well materials reflect light). The assignment that goes with this is Page 502 1, 3-7. This will need to be finished by tomorrow so we can take it up and discuss it.
